4 Ways to Spend Your Summer Break

We’re in a slow crawl to summer, where the weather is warm, and spring semester is behind us. However, with the wonderful weather comes an important decision - how do you spend the time away from those rigorous college classes? That’s where we come in! Here are a few ideas on how you can have an amazing summer break. Don’t forget though, you’ll need to make some of these plans far in advance of the sunshine season to be able to use them this summer.

1. Volunteer and Make A Difference

Do you have a passion for helping people? Want to make a meaningful difference in the world, and see your actions change lives? If the answer to both of these is yes, you’ll be amazing in a volunteer position this summer! From working with mental health advocates  to working with children in underserved communities, you can find a volunteer opportunity in nearly any field you’d like, and potentially even overseas. Check out VolunteerMatch and United Way for opportunities.

2. Become an Intern

This is the quintessential college student summer opportunity, especially if you are nearing the end of your time in university. From Google to NASDAQ, there are thousands of internship opportunities looking to be filled every summer. Even better, a lot of these internships are backdoors to getting job offers at dream organizations, so landing one can secure your future post-college. You’re going to want to reach out to your school’s career department to see what connections they may have to different companies, and then look for opportunities from anywhere you’d consider working with - Glassdoor and Internships.com are also great sources.

3. Take a “Cool” Summer Job

If you’re looking for a summer full of adventure, sightseeing, and a consistent paycheck, check out Coolworks. This isn’t like other job posting sites; instead, they post work from scenic locations, such as Yellowstone National Park and the Quisisana Resort that will ensure that you have lasting memories of your time there. There’s a wide variety of work, ranging from farm hands to U.S. Embassy work, so you’re sure to find something that you’ll fall in love with for this summer.

4. Relax and Enjoy The Summer!

With 2020 behind us and a return to normalcy in sight, it’s okay to use the summer as the time to reset, recollect, and reorient yourself from an unusual school year. Take the time to hang out with friends, sightsee in areas that you’ve never been to before, and kick back for the first time in a while, knowing that there isn’t a homework assignment waiting for you around the corner. We won’t tell anyone if you don’t, so take the summer off.

Hopefully this gives you some food for thought before we embark on our summer adventures. And as always, if you need help setting a budget for this summer, Kora's got you covered.
