How to Give Back on a Budget

Don’t let community service end with your college applications! It’s part of what got you where you are today, and if not it's always a good time to start. With so much swirling around social media, you might be confused about how to get involved and so some good. Don’t worry, we got you. Check out the following list to give back on a budget!

1. Ever heard the saying, “time is money”?

Your time is so valuable, consider giving it to something you care about! Reach out to local shelters, nursing homes and non-profit organizations to set up a time to volunteer. Even plant a couple of trees simply on your own.

If you can’t do something in-person, take a look at this United Nations site with virtual volunteering opportunities! There are tons of places waiting for some extra help!

2. You can help!

If you care about a certain cause, remember to take action! Start signing petitions, making calls or sending letters to representatives for the cause, supporting local businesses and registering to vote!

3. Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Another great way to get involved is to educate yourself on causes you’re passionate about. Head to your local or university library to read about it. If you’re off campus, explore online academic sources like JSTOR and Google Scholar, or other resources your school provides. Consider reaching out to experts on the topic and ask some questions. Then use your knowledge to educate others and start a conversation about it!

4. Donate

There are many “free” ways to donate! Find out about where to donate blood or support a food drive! Consider thrifting your old clothes or start a bake sale and give the proceeds to a cause of your choice. Finally, if you have the means to do so, after some solid research, donate your extra cash!

There are so many interesting and creative ways to give back. Find out what works for you, because every day is an opportunity to get started! If you need a hand with that jump start, remember Kora is here for you!
